Proverbs 3:1-2 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
The Psalmist wrote, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” (Psa 33:12). The principle of that verse is true for the nation as a whole, but it is also true for the individual. When we continue to walk in the ways of the Lord we can flourish and have the joy of the Lord. Even though our nation is off the rails and headed in the wrong direction we can still prosper and be blessed of the Lord.
Those who choose to be planted close to the Lord will not wither. You should delight in the Word of God and you ought to meditate therein day and night; when you do so the Lord has said that you will be like a tree that is planted by the rivers of water (Psa 1). “Rivers” is plural because you have the water of His Word to hydrate you spiritually. There are also “rivers” of living water that will feed your soul from the pulpit, as well as those who will edify, encourage, enrich, and empower you to be better and to live better.
All that we have discussed about wisdom will prosper you and you will benefit and profit from its advantages if you will heed what you read. You can bear fruit in your life in the midst of struggles and difficulties if you will stay close to God. He has promised over and over the benefits of walking close to Him. When you strive to get closer to God He will move closer to you. Then you will grow spiritually and find your life fruitful, productive, and profitable.
But the greater benefits of all of this is the fact that not only will you prosper, but those who are close to you - your family and home, your relatives, your friends, and your acquaintances - will also benefit. God blesses you to bless others. Your blessings may help someone come to accept Christ as their Saviour. You will be yielded and filled with the Spirit having springs of living water flowing from you to edify, encourage, enrich, and empower others.
We look and see all that is wrong with our nation today and realize that America has a heart problem. They did not stay with God and rejected His Word. They have forgotten all the benefits, prosperity, and blessings that came from obeying His commands. Now America’s sin is finding her out. She cannot outrun the consequences any more.
When 9-11 took place the churches were full for about six months. Will it take something as horrific or something worse to get her attention again? Israel was repeatedly defeated and oppressed by enemies when they turned away from God. Do we really think that it cannot happen to America? God said, “… be sure your sin will find you out” (Num 32:23).
The same is true in your life; if you will heed God’s Word you will be blessed; if not, it is sin and your sin will find you out. You can look at two people of the same age; one who lives a wanton life of sin and one who lives for the Lord. The older they get one will age more rapidly than the other. It is the one who lives in sin because your sin will always show itself.
Those who live for the Lord in heartfelt obedience will have a greater quality of life with peace and happiness. Quality of life begets greater quantity of life. Wisdom will prolong life. It is His promise to those who will keep His commandments. Read it, heed it, do it and be blessed beyond measure. –Preacher
